Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), Nepal’s only international airport, is taking steps to curtail air traffic congestion and takeoff and landing delays. In this regard the airport is planning to start round-the-clock operation from October. At present, the airport is operational for only 18 hours a day although it is open for 24 hours. TIA handles 27 international airlines and 13 domestic carriers. With Nepal Tourism Year-2011 targeting 700,000 air passengers, and international airlines increasing their flight frequency, it’s high time for the sole international airport in Nepal to become fully operational, 24 hrs.
