Trekking Through the 153 km Trail of the Manaslu Circuit

Offering the ideal balance of adventure, cultural immersion, and stunning scenery, the Manaslu Circuit Trek is an exciting trek through one of Nepal’s most pristine and unexplored Himalayan regions. Manaslu Circuit trip circles the magnificent Manaslu, the eighth-highest mountain in the world at 8,163 meters. Manaslu Circuit Trek travels through a variety of landscapes, including terraced farmlands, lush subtropical woods, rocky high-altitude peaks, and glacial valleys.

Larke La is a high mountain pass on the Manaslu Circuit Trek in Nepal. It represents one of the trek’s most challenging and scenic sections. The pass offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks. At the pass, you’ll be rewarded with stunning views of the upper Bimtang valley and a roofless dharamsala. The horizon is filled with majestic peaks, including Himlung Himal (7126 m / 23379 ft), Cheo Himal (6820 m / 22375 ft), Gyaji Khang (7038 m / 23091 ft), Nemjung (7339 m / 24078 ft), Kang Guru (6355 m / 20850 ft), and Annapurna II (7937 m / 26040 ft).
The descent from the Larke La Pass is steep and often covered in snow and ice, which may require a handline. Below, you’ll see three glaciers (Salpudanda Glacier, Pongkar Glacier and Kechakyu Khola Glacier) dotted with turquoise lakes; head towards the ablation valley to the left of the glaciers. The ascent to Larke La Pass is demanding due to its high altitude and the often harsh weather conditions. Trekkers usually reach the pass after crossing rugged terrain and navigating snowy or icy conditions, making it essential for acclimatization.
Despite its difficulty, Larkya La is renowned for its stunning vistas and the sense of achievement upon crossing. The pass serves as a key point for trekkers moving between the Bimtang and Samdo regions, adding a memorable and dramatic highlight to the Manaslu Circuit.

The Manaslu Circuit is still comparatively isolated from the more busy Annapurna or Everest treks, protecting its unspoiled beauty and genuine cultural legacy.

Trekkers can encounter friendly locals, historic monasteries, and lively celebrations as they meander through traditional villages that are home to ethnic Gurung, Tamang, Tsumba and Tibetan groups.
The trek must be done with a qualified guide and requires a specific permit (restricted area permit) because it is a restricted region, guaranteeing sustainable tourism and a low environmental effect. The Manaslu Circuit Trek, which combines physical difficulty with significant cultural and environmental rewards, is the perfect choice for anyone looking for an adventure that is not often explored. It promises to be an amazing journey into Nepal’s untamed heart.
The roughly 153-kilometer journey usually takes 14–18 days.
