Tenzing-Hillary Everest Marathon

Tenzing-Hillary Everest Marathon was held on 29th May 2010. The marathon which started from Khumbu Ice-fall(5,360m) and ended at Namche Bazaar (3,445m), saw the participation of 103 athletes- 69 Nepalese and 34 foreigners.

Phurba Tamang was the first to complete the marathon with a timing of 3hrs, 41min, 20sec. Sudip Kulung (4:02:35) of Solukhumbu finished second and Samir Tamang (4:05:10) of Tribhuvan Army Club came third. The winners took cash prizes of USD 1000,500 & 300.The prizes were given away by the French and Malaysian ambassadors, his excellencies Henry Gilles Garault and Dato Ilankovan Kolandavelu.

Tenzing-Hillary Everest Marathon 2010

The  much awaited annual high altitude running competition in Khumbu, the Tenzing-Hillary Everest Marathon will be held on May 29th. The participants will race from Everest Base Camp to Namche Bazaar.This year’s race is expected to raise awareness on environmental pollution and climate change. The marathon’s organizing committee have signed an agreement with Extreme Everest Expeditions (EEE) to bring down the waste from the region. According to a press release issued by the organizers, 31 Sherpas of EEE have collected over 2,000 kg of wastes from above 8,000m. Participants are expected to help by volunteering to carry at least 500 grams of waste each from the base camp to Namche Bazaar. The organizers remain confident of the participants support in cleaning up the mountain.
