Explore Himalaya President Suman Pandey Elected Secretary/Treasurer of PATA

Suman Pandey, Explore Himalaya President and the former Chairman of Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Nepal Chapter (2013- 2018), has been elected as the Secretary/Treasurer of PATA, the largest international travel association working for the responsible development of travel and tourism to, from and within the Asia Pacific region. Mr. Pandey was voted in against his Malaysian counterpart through a virtual voting on 12th October. The newly appointed Executive Board is led by Chairman Soon-Hwa. As a member of the Executive Board, Mr. Pandey, together with his team, is responsible for developing strategies to support tourism boards across Asia Pacific with focus on post-Covid future and beyond. The new Executive Board members were confirmed at the PATA Annual General Meeting held online on October 14, 2020.

Suman Pandey, the President of Explore Himalaya, CEO of Fishtail Air and Directors of Summit Air, Aloft Kathmandu Hotel & Chhaya Center, is an acclaimed tourism professional with 30 years of experience in Nepali Tourism. Notable for his innovative approach and diverse engagements with specialization in the Himalayan Adventure, he is accredited for his leadership role in various organizations including PATA Nepal Chapter, Nepal Tourism Board, Trekking Agent’s Association of Nepal, Airline Operators’ Association of Nepal etc. He is especially known for his remarkable initiation in various historical events including Everest Skydive (Since 2008), Kala Patthar Cabinet Meeting of Nepal Government (2009), First Himalayan Travel Mart (2017) etc.

Mr. Pandey’s  remarkable contributions in Nepali Tourism is complimented by various accolades including “Suprasidha Gorkha Dakshin Bahu” from the King of Nepal in 2004; “Tourism Icon” by the Nepal Association of Tourism Journalists in 2018; a “Lifetime Achievement Award” by tourism publication Gantabya Nepal in 2017; “Tourism Man of the year” by Gantabya Nepal in 2010; and a “Lifetime Achievement Award” for contributions in tourism by the “American Biographical Institute” (ABI) based in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA in 2008, to name a few.

On being elected, Mr. Pandey said, “It is a great honor to have been elected as the new Secretary/Treasurer. My focus will be both on the synergetic management of the team and the continual development of the region’s travel industry. In taking on this role, I commit to work together with the Executive Team, management team and our all members for the responsible growth of PATA and the whole tourism communities.”

PATA (Pacific Asia Travel Association), the organization that has played integral role to promote the travel destinations in Asia Pacific Region since 1951 in exclusive partnership with TripAdvisor announces PATA CEO Challenge.

PATA CEO Challenge aims to honor relatively less frequented or emerging travel destinations that comprise uniqueness and cater diversified aspects of history, culture and nature of the destination. The primary goal of the CEO Challenge is not only to promote emerging destinations; it also aims to showcase the highlights of these destination in the global travel market amongst millions potential travelers in sustainable manner.

PTM, a leading travel trade show in the Asia Pacific region is a signature event of PATA. PATA Trade Mart [PTM] offered a go-ahead plan and significant platform to promote travel products and services of the holiday planners operating in the Asia Pacific region. The first PTM  in  Chengdu from 15-17 September, 2013 brought together hundreds of potential international buyers and sellers under one roof.

Explore Himalaya was showcased in Booth No. 7 of Pavilion 4 in Century City New International Convention Center [CCNICEC]  with a panoramic backdrop of White Stupa of Pokhara depicting the cultural and natural treasures of the Nepal.

This three day event was committed to be a paradise for consumers to experience the wonder of the world in an all-round way. It was a great opportunity for exhibitors to launch new brands or new products, attracting the highest attention from the media, trade and public.

Led by the President of Explore Himalaya Travel and Adventure, Mr. Suman Pandey, company’s Manager for Marketing and Corporate Affairs Mr. Manoj Gurung also joined the delegation team to PTM 2013 representing Explore Himalaya. During the three days trade show Explore Himalaya had meeting with thirty registered buyers from all over the world.

SAARC Tour Operators Conclave

The first SAARC Tour Operators Conclave was held in in New Delhi on July 06. The conclave saw the attendance of about 45 participants from eight countries of the region. During the event, representatives from Nepal, Afghanisatan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives and Sri Lanka made their presentations. Ways to promote travel within the region by removing entry barriers and effective promotion of tourist destinations and products in the SAARC region were the highlights of the discussions. As reported by PATA, SAARC region is emerging as the fastest growing in Asia and Pacific region

PATA Adventure Travel Mart and Responsible Tourism Conference 2011

Nepal will be hosting PATA Adventure Travel Mart and Responsible Tourism Conference 2011.Nepal was selected as the host country as it is celebrating the year as Nepal Tourism year 2011. The event will be held at The Fulbari Resort & Spa in Pokhara from 7th to 10th February,2011.

PATA Reports a Surge on International Arrivals to South Asia

According to a study conducted by Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA)on the international visitor arrivals for the first quarter of 2010,arrivals to South Asia grew by 17% year-on-year in the first quarter.Arrivals growth was very strong for Nepal (+30%), the Maldives (+21%) and Bhutan (+57%) during the first three months of this year.The destinations of Southeast Asia also reported strong growth with a collective gain of 16% year-on-year in the first quarter. This was boosted by double-digit growth in international arrivals to Cambodia (+10%), Indonesia (+15%), Myanmar (+39%), Singapore (+20%), Thailand (+28%) and Vietnam (+36%).
