Motorbike Race in Nepal- Kathmandu to Nuwakot, a ride on the mishmash mountainous road

Honorable Minister for Youth and Sports signals to kick off the race raising a green flag

Driver-navigator duo of Subina Dangol and Anirudra Nakarmi won 89 kilometers long Kathmandu-Nuwakot Cross Country Motorcycle Rally 2014. The event which took place on March 1st was sponsored by Ethiopian Airlines and its GSSA partner Explore Himalaya. Nepal Automobile Sports Association NASA organized the event and also technically assisted it.

The event which was flagged off by Minister for Youth and Sports Puroshottam Poudel at Satdobato Lalitpur made its way along the mishmash mountainous trials through Shivpuri, Dhikure, Nuwakot Durbar, Devighat and Bidur Colony before ending at Festival venue in Battar. The competitive two wheeler rally was organized to promote the ongoing 3rd Nuwakot Festival 2014.

Solo rider Sumit Shrestha and driver-navigator duo Piyush Gajurel and Sajan Thapa bagged second and third positions respectively during the event participated by 125 riders. Based on rider’s overall performance on Time Distance and Speed (TDS) system the winners of the event were declared.

The rider-navigator duo bagging the first place, were rewarded with Kathmandu Malaysia Kathmandu round trip tickets for two pax sponsored by Air Asia. Simultaneously the first runner up was rewarded with Kathmandu Bangkok Kathmandu round trip tickets for 2 pax sponsored by Nepal Airlines and the second runner ups grabbed an opportunity to Mountain Flight with Buddha Air. The winners were honored and congratulated with trophies and certificates by Mr. Suraj Baidhya, Chairman of Nepal Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Suman Pandey, Chairman of Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Nepal Chapter, and Mr. Govinda Bhattrai, President of Nepal Automobile Sports Association (NASA).

Ethiopian Airlines sponsors the competitive Motorcycle Rally from Kathmandu to Nuwakot. The GSSA partner of the biggest African Airline, Explore Himalaya  is a Kathmandu based Travel Company, which is well known for launching new and unique tourism products in Nepal. Ethiopian Airlines and Explore Himalaya support this two-wheeler competitive rally organized by Nepal Automobile Sports Association (NASA) to promote Nuwakot Festival. Organized by Nuwakot Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Nuwakot Festival begins on 26 February 2014 and ends on 7th March 2014. The organizers of the Festival believe that the Motorcycle Rally taking place on 1st March 2014 would be one of the prime highlights of the festival.

The competitive rally which begins from Sports Council in Satdobato Kathmandu winds along the mishmash mountainous trials through Shivpuri, Dhikure, Nuwakot Durbar, Devighat and Bidur Colony before it ends at Festival venue in Battar. According to the organizer and also the technical coordinator of the event Nepal Automobile Sports Association (NASA), almost 200 riders would participate in this 100km long adventurous contest. Winners of the contest will be declared as per the rider’s performance based on Time, Distance and Speed (TDS) System.

The rider and the associate bagging the first place, would be rewarded with Kathmandu Malaysia Kathmandu round trip tickets for two pax sponsored by Air Asia. Simultaneously the first runner ups of the contest will be rewarded with Kathmandu Bangkok Kathmandu round trip tickets for 2 pax sponsored by Nepal Airlines and the third runner ups will bag an opportunity to Mountain Flight with Buddha Air for 2 pax respectively. The winners will also be honored with trophies and certificates.

 The President of Explore Himalaya Mr. Suman Pandey said, “The participation of 200 riders and their associates from 40 districts of Nepal will allow the significant exposure to the district’s touristic festival and also add new dimension of riding trial to the tourism products of Nepal.”

The Chairman of NASA Govinda Adhikari said, “With the competitive Motorbike Rally to Nuwakot, the Second Mountaineering Sports Festival in Nepal has been officially inaugurated which will support Nepal to make the list of popular riding destination among the riders around the globe.”
