Nepal observed International Sagarmatha Day 2011 yesterday (29th May, 2011) by organizing different programs throughout the country.
A special program was organized in the capital by the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoTCA), Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) and private tourism organizations to mark the day.
During the function Nepal Civil Servants Everest Expedition team & record breaking Everest Summitteer Mr. Apa Sherpa were felicitated. MoTCA awarded the Sagarmath National Award 2011 to Mingma Sherpa, the first Nepalese mountaineer to ascend all the 14 eight thousanders, while the Tenzing- Hillary Award was awarded to American doctor Luanne Freer, who is associated with the Himalayan Rescue Association.
