Nepal to Participate at Hong Kong International Tea Fair 2010

Nepal will be participating at the “Hong Kong International Tea Fair 2010” in Hong Kong from August 12-14, 2010.Binaya Kumar Mishra, executive director of Nepal Tea and Coffee Development Board (NTCDB) and other seven tea entrepreneurs from Nepal will be introducing Nepali tea products and promoting its export in the international market during the three-day long fair. More than 100 countries will be participating in the fair.

Nepalese tea leaves have a distinct flavor as they are gown in high altitude, ranging from 3,000 feet to 7,325 feet. Tea in Nepal is grown mostly in the hilly regions of eastern Nepal, like Dhankuta, Illam,Jhapa,Therathum and Panchthar. The highest tea garden in Nepal is at ‘Guranse Tea Estate’, located at an elevation of 7325ft in Dhankuta region. To promote these scenic and verdant locales among tourists, tea tourism has been introduced in these areas.
