NTY 2011 promoted in Northern Ireland

A special tourism promotion program was jointly organized by the Embassy of Nepal, London and the Nepali Community in Northern Ireland at Belfast, Northern Ireland on April 6, 2011. Special focus of the program was on the Nepal Tourism Year 2011 campaign.
During the event, the Nepalese ambassador to the UK, Dr Suresh Chalishe, named Hannah Shields – the first woman from Northern Ireland to climb Mount Everest – as Nepal Tourism year 2011’s Goodwill Ambassador. Shields, a dentist from Co Londonderry had scaled the world’s highest peak in May 2007.
The programme was attended by about 200 people- most of them were from Northern Ireland. Right Hon. Minister Edwin Poots of the Department of the Environment of Northern Ireland, Lord D. S. Rana, Mt. Everest summiteers from Northern Ireland, Councillor John Scott, were some of the prominent figures present on the occasion.
