Sustainability Report 2024/2025
Some of our Sustainability Achivements for 2024:
At Explore Himalaya we work with local guides and organizations wherever possible. Our groups are also encouraged to consume local food and shop locally. All our employees, drivers and guides are Nepalese. We also utilize guides from the areas the tourists visit for eg. The Solakhumbu region.
All our employees and guides have completed the Basic Travelife training. In addition to that all our guides get an additional annual training as follows:
- Training on First Aid and CPR by CIWEC clinic
- Training on Leadership and Managing by Kipling Travel, Denmark and PUM, Netherlands
- Training on Wilderness First Aid by TAAN
- Training on Map Reading, Weather Reading & Navigation, First Aid and Safety by TAAN
We always encourage the consumption of local products as far as possible. We also participate in Sagarmatha Next’s program “ Bring It Back”, where our tourists are encouraged to bring back 1kg. of waste from the EBC trek to Lukla for proper management.
We use sustainable materials where possible, both at the office and during the trip for eg. Our Head Guide collects all wastes like wrappers from all the trekkers in our group.
In addition to sustainable material, our Company strives to save energy and water. For this we have put notices in restrooms, offices and basins to use water and electricity mindfully.
Our accommodation partners have their own sustainability practices as well. Likewise we provide them our sustainability policies and guidelines to follow. It is similar with our trekking partners in other countries as well.
Additionally Explore Himalaya has taken the following steps/ initiatives towards a greener future:
- Purchased 2 electric vehicles
- Recycle Program in Collaboration with Doko (dokorecyclers.com )
- Tree Plantation Project at Nuwakot with the objective of planting 100,000 saplings of coffee, oranges and lemon tree. Of these approximately 40,000 have already been planted
All the Guides were trained in collaboration with PUM, TAAN and Kipling Travels in regards to leading and managing groups. They were trained in 2 groups from February 8-February 13, 2024 at Annapurna Royal Camp, Begnas Lake. All our Guides have also completed the Guides Training in Travelife portal. Some of our Guides have also trained in the German Language.
