Nepal Protests: Gen Z against corruption

Nepal is again at a political and social crossroads, grappling with recent turmoil that highlights deep-seated frustration over the corruption, nepotism and an ineffective government. On 8 September 2025, mass protests led by “Gen Z” against corruption and social media ban quickly morphed into wider demonstrations, revealing the youth’s widespread frustration with the Government. The incident took an ugly turn as the Government and administration response was high handed which has resulted in 400 injured and 19 killed so far. With the turn of events the Prime Minister and Home Minister have resigned.

For Travellers:

Due to the developing situation the administration has imposed an indefinite curfew within the Ring Road in Kathmandu and has urged everyone to stay indoors, and avoid unnecessary travel and movements. This may cause some inconvenience but is the safe thing to do.

For international and domestic travelers, the Nepal Tourism Board along with the tourist police is providing any necessary support. Currently Kathmandu’s only airport- Tribhuvan International Airport is closed.
