A beautification drive to restore Kathmandu’s oldest recreational area Ratna Park is in the offing. The project will be run by Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) in different phases beginning July. The environment department at the KMC has requested a Rs 1.5 million budget from the government for the park’s renovation.
Situated at the center of the city, north of Tundikhel and south of Rani Pokhari, the park was named after the then Queen Ratna, the second wife of King Mahendra and was built for the children living in the vicinity. Growing population and the adjacent street market have led to the destruction of this old park.
