Birds found around Kathmandu Valley

From great Himalayas in the north to the plain Terai in the south, Nepal has three types of geographical zones with the hilly region sandwiched in the middle. Being a small country, Nepal manifests rich wildlife including 873 bird species, which is the 10% of total species of birds found on earth. Dense forest in the Terai and Hilly region of the country houses a unique combination of in-house and migratory birds. For anyone who wishes to visit Nepal especially for bird watching, it will be an amazing experience for sure.

Chitwan National park, Bardia National Park,Sagarmatha National Park, Koshitappu Wildlife Reserve and ten other protected areas in Nepal are the famous bird watching destinations of the country.

Hundreds of species of birds migrate to Nepal during their long migratory journeys from Siberia, Africa, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Mongolia and Tibet China. Eurasian Cuckoo, Pied Thrush and Asian Paradise Flycatcher are some of the unique species of migratory birds recorded in the country.

For getting an ultimate bird watching experience, one does not even have to go far from Kathmandu. Forested Regions like Shivapuri National park, Godawari, Taudha (lake) are ideal bird-watching destinations, few kilometers far from the valley. Around 120 species of migratory birds and around 400 species of in-house birds can be found around the valley itself.
