Namaste friends,
EH had a good season and despite the closure of Tibet by Chinese authorities, most of our clients who had booked trips to Tibet opted to visit Bhutan. Meanwhile, we have just received news about the opening of Tibet by Chinese authorities.
This year with the Chinese ban on the Tibet side of Everest, the Nepal side received the maximum number of climbers. This season EH organized "three of the coolest expeditions" to Everest (according to www.mounteverest.net): Peak Freaks', Project Himalaya's & 7 Summits'. At Everest, several new records were created. But the climbing season also saw the deaths of accomplished climbers, including that of Spanish climber Iñaki Ochoa de Olza on May 23rd at Annapurna South face. Inaki had joined Project Himalaya's 2006 Shishapangma expedition, organized by Explore Himalaya, where the Spaniard was the lone summitter. May his brave soul rest in peace.
Not only Everest, the country too saw history being made with the declaration of Nepal as a republic by the Constituent Assembly on May 28th. 239 years of monarchy came to an end with the ex-royal Gyanendra Shah's exit from the royal Narayanhiti Palace. The palace has been converted into a museum.
We are sure that the winds of change will usher in positive changes for the tourism industry.
